Assalammu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

To begin this, we want to take a moment to thank the-Almighty Allah for granting us this opportunity to put together this magazine. We believe that this magazine can be something that will be a source of knowledge and a platform for voices that may not have had the opportunity otherwise. Through this, we hope to encourage children to share what they believe is important and be creative. We hope everyone- from parents, children to everyone in between- will benefit from these carefully-compiled stories, speeches and essays.

We have seen through the past year, the power that words and knowledge hold. The weight that words carry was seen through the repetition of phrases such as 'cases', 'lockdown' and 'testing times'. However, we've also seen this power through friends and family being tied together through chains of text messages, sharing quotes, poetry and inspiration to make these times more hopeful. We have seen this ourselves through the incredible responses from scholars, young people and adults- we would not have been able to make The Soul Journal what it is today without all of them.

It gives us great pleasure to invite you all to the very first edition of The Soul Journal- a magazine for children, young people and adults alike. We want everyone to read and share the articles not only to support us in the future but to make the voices of those who are revolutionising the future heard, Insha Allah. This is an opportunity for us all to improve, engage and relax with pieces suited for all ages by people of all ages and we are certain that there will be something you learn from every article. As reported by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,

“The world, with all that it contains, is accursed except for the remembrance of Allah that which pleases Allah; and the religious schools and seekers of knowledge.”
— At- Tirmidhi, Riyad as-Salihin Book 13, Hadith 9
